At TH&O, we provide friendly, professional firearms training delivered in a supportive and welcoming environment. Our courses are run in small groups (minimum of 10 participants) to ensure quality instruction and individual attention.
Training is led by TH&O shop owner and qualified trainer, Matthew Perkins. Matt has a genuine passion for firearm sports and extensive product knowledge across a wide range of firearms. He is well placed to provide personalised guidance on your next steps, whether you are working toward obtaining your first firearms licence or preparing to purchase your first firearm.
We are also pleased to welcome James to the TH&O training team. James brings a long-standing passion for the sport and actively participates in multiple disciplines, from pistol competitions through to hunting. His practical experience adds further depth and insight to our training programs.

Firearm Safety Course



DPI Accredited Hunter LEAP Training Provider
Our small group training provides a space where all participants can obtain quality firearm safety training and allows time for participants to get all their firearm ownership questions answered.
What’s Involved in the TH&O Firearms Safety Training?
You will cover 12 topics over a 3-3.5 hr period and will be required to sit an exam at the end of the training.

Upon successfully passing the exam you will receive a certificate of completion which you can then submit to the firearms registry to continue on your journey to acquiring your firearms license.
Children over the age of 12 years are eligible to sit the course with the consent of their parent or guardian.
Prior to sitting our safety course we encourage you to download the Long arms Safety training Course booklet and familiarise your self with the content.
The P650 is a form that:
- Allows unlicensed people to safely and legally use a firearm
- Is required before you can take part in a firearms safety training course
- Confirms you will be closely supervised by a qualified instructor at all times
This form is to be completed on the day of your course and signed on the premises. We can not accept forms that have been prefilled and signed.
Before You Fill It Out
If you have recently booked into a safety training course and think you might need to answer “yes” to any of the questions on the form, please call the shop and speak with one of our trainers first.
Your call will be confidential, and we’ll do our best to guide you on what to do next.
Important Things to Know
- The P650 is a legal declaration and is submitted to the Firearms Registry
- Providing false or misleading information may result in your licence being refused or prosecution, in line with current state laws
- This form MUST be completed and signed on the day of your training course
- Prefilled or pre-signed forms cannot be accepted

Firearms Licence Application (NSW)
Applicants who have not yet commenced their firearms licence application must apply through Service NSW. Submission of an application does not guarantee approval and is subject to mandatory suitability, background, and legislative checks conducted by the NSW Firearms Registry.

Genuine Reason – Club & Association Memberships
Applicants must demonstrate a genuine reason for holding a firearms licence, as required under the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW). Membership of an approved shooting club or hunting association may be used to support a genuine reason, where applicable.
Australian Recreation Union (ARU)
Provides recognised participation for a range of recreational and sporting activities. Applicants should ensure the selected activity aligns with their nominated genuine reason.

Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia (SSAA)
A nationally recognised organisation supporting target shooting disciplines. SSAA membership may be used to support a genuine reason for target shooting, subject to NSW Firearms Registry assessment.

Australian Deer Hunters Association (ADHA)
Supports regulated hunting activities in accordance with state and territory legislation. Membership may help demonstrate a genuine reason for nominating hunting.

Applications for Minors
Firearms permits for minors are subject to additional legislative requirements. A parent or legal guardian must apply on behalf of the minor, and all conditions imposed by the NSW Firearms Registry must be strictly complied with.
This form is to be completed by a landowner or occupier to give permission for a licence holder or an applicant for a firearms licence to hunt or shoot vermin on their property.
