The sale or supply of ammunition is governed by the NSW Firearms Act.
Specifically Section 65A
- To purchase longarm ammunition you are required under Section 65A to –
- Present your Firearms Licence or other permit that allows you to purchase ammunition
- Purchase ammunition ONLY for the category of permit or licence to which you are authorised under this licence or permit
The Dealer MUST record the details of the sale including the type or ammunition sold and your firearm’s licence details along with your personal details including your residential address.
- To purchase handgun ammunition you are required under Section 65A to –
- Present your Firearms Licence or other permit that allows you to purchase ammunition
- Present your Registration Certificate for the firearm to which you are purchasing ammunition for
- Purchase ammunition ONLY for the category of permit or licence to which you are authorised under this licence or permit
- The Dealer MUST record the details of the sale including the type or ammunition sold, your firearm’s licence details, registration number for the firearm to which you are purchasing the ammunition along with your personal details including your residential address.
- If you ONLY have a Cat H Licence then you will need to produce your Registration Certificate for ALL ammunition purchases.
Although Section 65A states that you are required to present your registration certificate for longarm ammunition purchases as well as for handgun ammunition, the NSW Firearms Regulations contain and exemption in Part 115A
